AMR's philosophy is that great recordings start with acute musical understanding—only then can the most exacting techniques of high-end classical recording produce compelling results. Jamey's conservatory training (Cleveland Institute of Music, BM, 1993), combined with great ears, a wide-ranging knowledge of repertoire, and a well-honed sense of how to communicate with and inspire musicians in the session makes him sought-after by artists in the know, nationwide.

Taneyev: String Quartets (complete), Vol. 1 (Nos. 1 & 3)
Image
A pupil of Tchaikovsky, whom he replaced at the Moscow Conservatory, Sergey Taneyev was a virtuoso pianist and a teacher of Scriabin and Rachmaninov. Althoughh as a composer Taneyev is best known today for his four symphonies, he also composed a sizeable body of chamber music, including six String Quartets. These beautifully crafted wprks are marked by technical assurance at every turn, as well as dramatic inspiration and intense lyricism. The masterly five-movement Quartet No. 1, in fact Taneyev's fifth, includes two notable slow movements, while the lighter Quartet No. 3 features a graceful theme with eight variations, alternately playful and contemplative. The Carpe Diem String Quartet recorded this music in May 2006 in Columbus, OH. The disc is produced, engineered, and edited by Jamey Lamar of Art Music Recording.
