The 21st season of Strings in the Mountains -- now known simply as the Strings Music Festival -- has turned to Art Music Recording to capture the many exciting chamber-music events on its Classical Series this summer. The festival is located in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Many of the recordings will be featured on American Public Media's nationally syndicated series Performance Today.

The Ceruti String Quartet, in residence at the University of Memphis, is recording music of Brahms and Debussy with AMR, May 12-15. The sessions will take place in the Harris Concert Hall in the U of M's Scheidt School of Music. |

Pianist Garrick Ohlsson performed the "Emperor" Concerto with IRIS on April 26; the program also featured the Concerto for Seven Wind Instruments, Strings, and Percussion, by Frank Martin; and selections from Legends by Antonin Dvorak. |

Jamey Lamar was the Artistic Director for the premiere performance of An Idaho Symphony, a piece commissioned by the Boise Philharmonic from Idaho composer Jim Cockey. The performance was accompanied by a video presentation featuring the photographs of photographer Glenn Oakley; both the symphony and the accompanying photographic display were based on the four seasons, starting with Autumn and working around to Summer. The ovation at the Boise premiere was the longest in recent memory.

The prolific young rising composer Jonathan Leshnoff had another big premiere in March. His Double Concerto for Violin and Viola was performed by the IRIS Orchestra under the direction of Michael Stern. Roberto Diaz and Charles Wetherbee were soloists. The orchestra also recorded the work for an upcoming Naxos release of several works by Mr. Leshnoff commissioned by IRIS. |
